Attendee FAQ

  1. Where is the conference located?
    The conference is being held at the Embassy Suites Hotel and Conference Center located at 100 Conference Center Drive, East Peoria, IL. Sessions will be held in both the hotel and the conference center.
  2. What is included in the cost of registration?
    Registration includes a registration badge, access to all SAV events, including general session, all workshop sessions, conversation stations, showcasing, exhibit hall and art gallery. Lunch and morning and afternoon snacks are also included. For those attendees staying at the Embassy Suites Hotel and Conference Center, a full breakfast and evening Manager’s Reception will be provided daily by the hotel.

    Pre-conference registration is separate from conference registration.

  3. Where should I stay?
    The Embassy Suites and Conference Center is the official hotel of the conference. Room blocks have been set-aside until September 17, 2019.   4. How do I get a certificate and receive credit for the sessions I attended during the conference?
    A variety of sessions will qualify for the following: Professional Development clock hours for licensed educators through the Illinois State Board of Education; Continuing Education (CE) for Speech-Language Pathologists, Social Workers, Occupational Therapists, and Physical Therapists license renewal through the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation; Gateways to Opportunity Registry and Early Intervention Credentialing hours. Please refer to the Professional Development tab on the SAV website for more information. A credentialing table will be set-up on site during the conference to help answer questions.
  5. What if I lose my certificate?
    Participants requesting a new certificate will need to contact Kristy Doan,  kdoan@isbe.net. A fee of $25.00 will be charged for all replacement certificates. Certificates will be mailed once the fee has been received.
  6. What is the Art Gallery?
    The Creative Expressions Art Gallery is an opportunity to get inspired and to learn more about the impact of planning high quality creative art experiences for young children.  This year’s art gallery will feature art experiences that enhance children’s development and learning to reach their full potential, and focus on the following outcomes for young children and their families:  1) Providing access and supports for all children to participate, 2) Fostering a sense of belonging and membership and 3) Promoting positive social relationships and friendships

  7. If I have a question or need help, where do I go?
    Participants needing assistance during the conference can stop at the main registration desk or can locate a conference volunteer. Conference volunteers will be wearing “Ask me” buttons indicating they are there to help and answer questions. 

  8. Where do I find information about working with families?
    A family booth is set up in the exhibit hall. Please be sure to stop by to talk with Illinois STAR NET Family Resource Specialists and pick up current resources to support your work with families.
  9. What are Presenter Sales?
    Presenter sales is an opportunity for presenters to offer attendees additional resources for sale immediately following their session. If you are looking for more information on a workshop session that you attended or if you missed a session and would like to speak with the presenters and check out their products, you can catch them immediately following their session.
  10. What is Showcasing?
    Showcasing is an opportunity for attendees to view unique features about programs across the state, innovative ideas or techniques, or share the results of research and evaluation efforts.
  11. What type of networking opportunities and events are planned during the conference?
    Attendees should consider using the exhibit hall as their home base to meet colleagues and network. Additionally, a nightly Manager’s Reception is provided from 5:00-7:00pm for Embassy Suites Hotel guests.  The Illinois Division of Early Childhood will also be hosting an open meeting during lunch on Thursday, October 3rd from 11:30am-12:50pm. Please refer to the Guidebook App or the At a Glance Schedule on the website for location.
  12. Is there a lost and found?
    Through the duration of the conference, a lost and found will be set up at the conference registration desk. Once the conference is over, all lost and found items will be transferred to the Embassy Suites Hotel and Conference Center lost and found.
  13. What is the cancellation policy?
    If you are unable to attend the conference, you may cancel your registration by September 18th to receive a refund. A $20.00 processing fee for all refunds will be charged. After September 18th, refunds will not be provided. However, you are welcome to transfer your registration to a colleague. All transfers must be submitted in writing to dscowde@ilstu.edu.

  14. When will I receive a printed schedule of the conference sessions?
    Printed copies of the full conference session schedule will not be provided. Attendees will receive a printed copy of the “At a Glance” schedule with registration materials on-site. Attendees can access the Guidebook App for a full listing and description of workshop sessions, including presenter bios, at least one week prior to the conference. For attendees who prefer a printed detailed schedule, a pdf file will be available on the SAV website for download at least one week prior to the conference.
  15. Will there be internet access at the hotel and conference center?
    Yes, there will be free wireless internet access in the conference center on October 2, 3 and 4. Hilton Honors members will receive complimentary wireless internet in their Embassy Suites hotel guest room.
  16. How do I access handouts for my session?
    Presenters have been asked to submit their handouts to SAV electronically. Handouts will be accessible via the Guidebook App for those presenters who submitted to SAV at least one week prior to the conference. Presenters who do not submit electronically are expected to distribute hard copies of handouts during the workshop.
  17. What if I have dietary restrictions?
    There is a place to indicate dietary restrictions during the registration process.  Every effort will be made to make reasonable accommodations for dietary restrictions.
  18. Do you take walk-in registrations?
    In order to guarantee your attendance to SAV, we encourage you to register by the early bird or regular registration deadline. Walk-in registration is not guaranteed, as the conference has filled to capacity in the past.
  19. What funding opportunities exist to attend SAV?
    Illinois STARNET provides Fellowships to families and early childhood professionals to help cover the cost of professional learning and associated expenses. Locate your local STARNET region at www.starnet.org to inquire about funding opportunities to attend SAV. Additional scholarship opportunities might be available on a conference-by-conference basis. Childcare providers can contact their local Child Care Resource and Referral Agency to inquire about funding opportunities. Locate your local CCR&R at https://www.inccrra.org/about/sdasearch.
